Goktekin and Buket

Friday afternoon we got a call from Jess in Colorado. Seems a friend and his wife had bought a 1969 Leaf Green 911T in Colorado, and were on their way driving it to Savannah, Georgia so they could ship it back to Istanbul, Turkey where they live. The car sat disassembled since 1976 until about a year ago, when the previous owner bought it and put it back together. The plan was to fly in, pick up the car, drive it to the coast and ship it home. Goktekin and Buket got to the middle of Kansas and started having starter problems (For those of you who have been through Kansas, you know there isn't much out there besides wheat and cows). The car would not restart if you turned it off hot, so it was decided that the culprit was the starter. Jess had seen us at a local track event, and knew that if Goktekin and Buket could make it to Kansas City, we could probably take care of him. At 5:30 on Friday, Aaron found a new starter on the west coast and ordered it next day air for Saturday. It was decided that Goktekin and Buket could make it into KC, and that we would do the work for them Saturday morning. Saturday morning they showed up at 9am with a very nice, though partially wounded little 911T (after about a day of having to push start the car). The starter showed up via UPS at 9:30, and I had the starter swapped and the car washed by about 10:15. Much appreciation was expressed, and Goktekin and Buket were on their way again, without losing much time. Extremely nice people, and we were glad to be able to help them.

Yours truly going after the starter....

The Imagine Auto Shop

Whether it be for an upcoming open house, porsche event, or just a normal work day, we pride ourselves with having an amazingly clean shop. Yes, on a daily basis the shop floor is clean enough to eat off of. Customers can walk into our shop in a suit and tie, and not worry about getting any dirt or grease on them. It takes a ton of work to keep it clean, but having a clean shop shows our nature of doing things the right way.

996 Carerra Cupholder Installed Today

This morning was spent installing Porsche cupholders in a beautiful 2000 996 Carerra. This modification removes the climate control unit which sits on top of the radio, and puts the cupholders in it's place. The climate control unit then replaces the small cubby that sits in front of the shifter and below the CD holder. I forgot to take a picture of how everything looks stock, but you can imagine......

1st step was to remove some dash trim and pull out the climate control unit which is held in by 2 screws. It is then pulled out of the dash and the harness is disconnected from the backside (4 plugs). In the picture below, i have already rerouted the harness and installed the climate control in it's new place. The 2nd picture shows the harness plugged into the back of the climate control unit.

Then you must remove the retaining clips for the Climate control, held on by 2 screws

Then install the new retaining clips which are shorter. They have some clips that hold them in place while you install the cupholder. I found out the one side held like it should, but the other side didn't work quite as planned, and was a bit of a bugger to get to stay in place

Sliding the cupholders into place......

Installing the unit in the dash. Again, due to the clips not staying in place, it was a little time consuming to get it right....

The finished product: The cupholders are spring loaded, you just push them, and they slide out, and push them back in to hide them in the dash. Note, the bottom trim was not yet on the climate control unit when the picture was taken.

Everyday Maintenance

I am a “new” person at ImagineAuto. I was a tech for just about a year then decided to go back to school and after realizing that I could do both at the same time, came back into sales. Today we got a red Boxster in the shop for just standard maintenance. Oil Change, break pad swap, and check for exhaust rattle and to clean his air filter. This is my first car to have brought in since I have come back.

Porsche 1967 911S

This is a 1967 Rare 911S that we will be doing some engine work to during the car's restoration. The car sat in an airport hanger for the last 8 years, so we will be tearing the engine down and checking everything out before putting it back together and starting the car. During the winter months, the car will be continuing it's exterior and interior restoration. This is a very interesting piece of Porsche history.

PCA October 2005

This weekend was the Kansas City Region Porsche Club Octoberfest. Stephen and I, Karl and Val, Nathan and Mel and Aaron and Haley all attended the charity auction on Saturday night. Dinner was actually really good and Stephen and I won several silent auction items including a Porsche coat, Porsche bathrobe and vintage model Mercedes, proceeds of which was contributed to the local Fox 4 Children’s Love Fund.

Today was the German concours where VW, Audi, BMW, Mercedes and Porsche were all represented. Stephen and I entered our two personal cars. Mine a 1976 911S and Stephen’s a 2001 996TT. We also showed the supercharged Boxster fitted with the new IA kit. And guess whose car won? Mine! For the second year in a row our ’76 911 placed first. Up against some really great cars from 1985 on down, the well maintained steed stood out from the rest. Our two boys, Jett and Quinn love mom’s yellow car and were quite proud to be part of the win. Can’t wait to see what next year brings.

944 Turbo S - from 230 to 300 RWHP!

We had a Silver Rose 1988 944 Turbo S finish up today. Beautiful car, second owner, 30k miles. The car hasn't been driven a lot lately, so it needed a check-up. He figured a little more horsepower wouldn't be a bad thing either. The IA guys installed a full exhaust system, MAF, high-pressure fuel regulator, and boost controller. That got it up to 290 RWHP on our in-house Mustang Dyno. Additional fine tuning got it to 300.8! New tires for the factory Club Sport wheels are on the way, too. Having a dyno on-site certainly takes the guess-work out of upgrades. This should be one very pleased customer when he comes to take his "new" car home this evening.
